You Know That Topic That Is On Everyone’s Mind…
Well, it turns out that it’s almost never the one that’s worth talking about.
The urgency of the day, today’s celebrity crisis, the thing of the moment that they let turn into an “issue”… that’s what the media or your lazy boss wants, that’s what creates urgency, and that’s what is most definitely not important – trust me on this.
We now follow that same path at work – I deal with it daily.
No excuses for the reporter (and editor – or worker) that pursue a story or task merely because it’s on everybody’s mind. Or the boss-man that wants you to solve X problem, when Y caused it and that should be the focal point. That’s not a good enough reason to waste our attention & time on it.
Step by step, drip by drip, decision by decision you carve your path by focusing on what matters, not what’s on everybody’s mind. By the time you try to chase the urgent thing, it’s too late and you’ll experience it again and again.
Focus on what matters; not what is urgent.
