🎓 Myths I Discovered After College 🎓

☎️ ATTN Parents & Upcoming College Grads: ☎️

I adore academia, miss it often, and wish I can be a full-time student & continue to learn from some of the brilliant professors & students I had the luxury to share a classroom with.

However, some of the stories you hear are merely myths or lies.

Like these:

  1. College is where you figure out what the hell you want to do
    • I’m 33 and have no clue what I want to do with my life – and I sure as hell didn’t know when I was 20. College doesn’t teach that; it forces you to choose something, quickly.
  2. It’s an investment in you & your future
    • When is it a good idea for an 18-year-old kid who hasn’t a clue of what they want to do get into 6 figures worth of debt on something that may or may not yield an ROI?!
    • Every job requires skill training, so even if you have a degree, you still need training. And experience is the only true educator & trainer.
  3. You’ll be successful if you obtain a college degree
    • I read that a degree “is not a prerequisite to success or happiness” and isn’t that the truth.
  4. You’ll become smarter
    • This one is silly. Some of the dumbest people I know have a college degree. And conversely, the two people I deem as the smartest people in my world do not. Correlation or causation?

I know, per usual, I probably pissed a few people off with this rhetoric. But think deeper into what I am writing…

It’s hard to stop believing something that was ingrained in your brain all your life – that’s called indoctrination. And that’s why people got so flipping pissed when they were told Pluto wasn’t a planet anymore, at all, or ever. (This may be news to some of you – my apologies)

Beliefs are ideas, and ideas are the future. Therefore, if your ideas are predicated around an old way of thinking, your ideas will be old, too.

My premise (sort of): You can’t trust ANY government, bank, or educational institution. Be a heretic.

Fight On! ❤️💛✌🏽
