People (Old People) Hate Millennials (Young Gen)

👴🏼 People (Old People) Hate Millennials (Young Gen) 👲🏽

What do all my meetings have in common? Well, me wearing some vibrant Nike‘s, a backwards USC Trojans hat, and someone (other than me) bringing up that damn term they claim they know so much about: MILLENNIALS.

You know, those whiny, pusillanimous, spoiled, high-standard, demanding, rent-centric, cool, technologically savvy, ME ME ME brats. The group we love to hate.

When I open LinkedIn, I see all the “professionals & top-rated recruiters” complaining & condemning how Millennials are ruining this and tarnishing that – SHUT THE $#@% up.

Let’s allow people to be the age they are. And quit discrediting people because of their age – that’s called discrimination & prejudice.

Below are 4 excerpts from a Newsweek Article that shed a little light on why you need to shut your trap about what you think you know about Millennials:

1. “I’m fed up with the ceaseless carping of a handful of spoiled, self-indulgent, overgrown adolescents. This is a generation that was raised with the highest standard of living in the history of the world.”

2. “We have a generation (or at least part of a generation) whose every need has been catered to since birth. Now, when they finally face adulthood, they expect the gift-giving to continue.”

3. “But the Whiners want everything now. A generation raised on the principle of instant satisfaction simply can’t understand the concepts of long-term planning and deferred gratification. What’s their reaction when they don’t get what they want? That’s right – they throw a tantrum.”

4. “Most people live ordinary lives of quiet desperation stuck in uninteresting jobs that they’re afraid to lose. If you want more than that, move out of your parents’ houses, start working and, for heaven’s sake, stop whining.”

Now here’s the KICKER: This article was written in 1993 (don’t you feel silly?!). Can you see the problem now? Yup, the older generation continues to say the same thing about the younger generation – old people love to hate-on the youth.

Embrace the youthification of our society, innovate your recruiting methods & marketing tactics, adapt, improvise, overcome. And good luck.
